It’s disturbing, but not a surprise since there was little protest over the de facto takeover of GE properties MSNBC and NBC by the current government. In a way, we’ve invited it by not properly standing up to it.
There’s talk of protesting outside local ABC affiliates, but I’ve pursued a different course of action and gone directly to the stations advertisers with both a plea and a promise. After sending out the emails, I then contacted the competitor FOX, CBS, and NBC affiliates with a copy of the letter along with the business names and emails informing them that now might be a good time to drop these advertisers a line and see if they want to switch/increase their advertising with their station instead.
“Why contact CBS & NBC?,” you say. Well, local affiliates are a little freer than their national parents and it also serves as a warning to those who dare follow suit.
Granted, my own personal experience laid out in the below email is a unique situation, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from:
1) Copy/pasting this email or starting your own, inserting the names of your local ABC affiliate along with your own reasons and convictions for not allowing this insult to freedom of the press to air.
2) Finding the advertiser list or following the links to the online advertisers’ contact info and then sending them your letter.
3) Forwarding your letter along with the names and emails of the businesses you just contacted to your local ABC affiliate’s competitors.

SUBJECT: You advertise on WXLV ABC45
I’m contacting you in hopes that you can persuade WXLV ABC45 NOT to air an upcoming June 24th ABC News broadcast of a one sided 30 minute infomercial for universal healthcare.
This form of healthcare, as opposed to one modeled after car insurance, is nothing short of a threat to the life of my still relatively young mother, an inspirational woman who, despite loosing her arm to the disease back in 1999, has survived 5 bouts of cancer going back to 1985 despite being told by doctors that she had little chance of survival on more than one occasion.
She currently takes a special shot that costs $2000 per month that thankfully we can afford. Under universal (rationed) care she would fall into the category of “too sick to treat” and, despite having the money to pay for this expensive treatment, would be refused care and would likely be dead within a year.
I implore you to demand that WXLV ABC45 not air this partisan broadcast, and it might also serve as free advertising for your company.
You can choose to disregard this request thinking this issue will simply fade away.
Of course, given the incredible set of circumstances my family faces, don’t be surprised if I show up at your place of business during peak traffic hours with my mother so that you, the owner, can personally tell her after years of miraculous fighting, why you think it’s a good idea for the government to now decide when it’s time for her to die.
Sincerely,
Michael Norbury
Greensboro, NCP.S. I might also bring a handheld minicam with me. I wonder how many views this kind of a video would get on YouTube?
